2nd generation Regional & National Agricultural Investment Plans, Abidjan

ECOWAS, in partnership with the African Union and NEPAD Agency  are organizing a regional workshop for launching the 2nd generation of National Agricultural Investment Plans (NAIP) and Regional Agricultural Investment Programme (RAIP) drafting process from May 30 to June 02, 2016 at the Hotel Belle Coast in Abidjan, Republic of Côte d'Ivoire.

The Abidjan workshop is a fundamental stage in launching the 2nd generation NAIPs and RAIP drafting process as part of the Zero Hunger by 2025 objective. Given the various processes currently underway (SDGs, Malabo, COP 21, AGIR, etc.), this ECOWAS-led process is intended as a framework that facilitates the integration of all these converging initiatives, both at national and regional level, so as to simplify its governance and thereby improve its efficiency.

The ECOWAS Commission is engaged in the implementation of the guidelines adopted by the Agriculture, Environment and Water Resources Specialised Ministerial Committee (SMC) and the "ECOWAP 10 and Outlook 2025" Conference held in Dakar, in November 2015.

The process is under the leadership of the ECOWAS Commissioner for Agriculture, Environment and Water Resources. The Consultative Committee for Agriculture and Food (CCAF), an organ of the institutional mechanism for ECOWAP implementation, is the formal steering committee of the process, involving the various stakeholders in the policy dialogue.

The aim of the regional workshop is to discuss and validate the 2nd generation NAIPs and RAIP elaboration process and initiate its implementation, closely involving the ECOWAS Member States, the various categories of stakeholders and all regional and international technical and financial partners.

For the participants, this regional workshop will bring together representatives from the fifteen Member States of ECOWAS (5 representatives per country).

The official opening ceremony is scheduled for Monday, May 30 at 9 am in Abidjan at the Belle Cote Hotel.
