A bulldog is a breed with unusually thick shoulders and a large head too. There are normally thick folds of skin on the bulldog's brow, and round, wide-set, black eyes, a short muzzle with characteristic overlaps called "rope" above the nose, with skin hanging just under the neck, drooping lips, and pointed teeth. A bulldog's coat is short, flat and sleek, with colors of red, fawn, white, brindle (mixed colors, often in waves or irregular stripes), and piebalds of these.
In the United States, the averaged size male is about 45 lbs and that for mature female bulldogs is around 45 lbs for a Standard English Bulldog. In the United Kingdom, the breed standard is 55 lbs for a male and 50 pounds for a female.
